Shades of You Photography

10 years ago, this month….

I cannot believe it, but this month is the 10th anniversary of Shades of You Photography. I’m not sure I even have words for how I’m feeling. I remember, 10 years ago, making the decision to quit my teaching job and start my own business. It took a lot of really hard work to build my business (and learn my craft) and I am still constantly learning and growing. And for that, too, I am thankful.

I remember that I was so worried about leaving a “real” workplace, with people to interact with… and friends. Well, I really had nothing to worry about. I have met so many wonderful people in the past 10 years and my life feels very rich and full of people that I care deeply for. Some people were here at the beginning and are now not really a part of my life anymore. Some were not here at the beginning but are a huge part of my life now. I am thankful for all of them. I would not be where I am now if not for each and every one.

I have the most wonderful, loyal clients who allow me to share in their most poignant memories and that is a truly humbling thing. I have had some great friends and mentors over the past 10 years as well. From the bottom of my heart I thank you all.

But the biggest thanks would go to Pat. I am so grateful, every day, for such an amazing husband and best friend. There has not been one day (honestly, not even one) that I have not felt his support for me and his encouragement that I do what I love. He told me that he just wanted me to be happy and he meant it. What a gift to give someone. The gift of giving them space to find their happiness.
