Hi there and welcome to our blog. We hope that by visiting here you will get a good idea of who we are and how much we love what we do! We're going to be pretty casual here in our blog...mostly because that's just who we are! We're looking forward to sharing our enthusiasm and love of photography with our clients, friends, and family!

We specialize in portrait photography, focusing on you and your relationships. It is our goal at every session to capture that special moment, glance, expression, or gesture that speaks volumes to you later when you see it every day on the walls of your home.

Please visit our website at www.shadesofyouphoto.com or click on the Website link at the top of the page to view more of our work. There you will find galleries with images from the many types of sessions that we do as well as other information about booking your session.

So, enjoy the blog. Take a look around...stay a while. And please visit again soon.

what an angel-Dallas newborn portraits

Little Tegan…what an angel.  I just have no words for how sweet this little darling is.  She didn’t really have a lot of patience for my shenanigans but we were able to get some absolutely beautiful images in the end.

ah…babies :)

This darling baby is one of my baby planners which means I am lucky enough to photograph her whole first year.  When I say lucky, I mean that this baby is the sweetest thing and her mama is a darling too.  I think I’ll always feel super connected to them, as her mommy went into labor the day we did her maternity portraits.   That was a first for me :)

Look at her delightful little face.  I just love her smile.

Sweet little Hunter/Dallas newborn photographer

One of my favorite families welcomed their newest (8 days new) member.  He is the sweetest little newborn.  I fell in love with Hunter.  And big brother Anthony was sooo good during the session.  You’d never believe he’s only 2.  It was such a delightful session.

Little Wyatt is turning one year old!/Dallas family photography

I can’t believe a whole year has passed already.  My first session was with Mommy and Daddy when they were happily expecting this little guy.  He has such a sweet disposition (not a surprise with such sweet parents) and it has been so much fun getting to see him grow this year.  Happy Birthday Wyatt!  xoxoxo

It is the little moments that make up a life-Dallas family photographer

This is a poignant blog post for me to write and I really want to do it justice.  I hope you read through the whole thing.

I met this sweet couple about 4 years ago when they were pregnant with their first child.  We did newborn portraits.  Then we did pregnancy portraits when they were expecting their second child.  Their beautiful daughter.  I really fell in love with this family during our times together.  Mom is just an absolutely beautiful person, inside and out.  Dad is the nicest guy.  Fun and fun-loving.  Just a joy to work with.  It was during our second newborn session that something was very wrong.  Mom shared with me that she hadn’t been feeling well and it was clear to see that she wasn’t.  I was very concerned.  Time went by.  They loved their portraits and I assumed things were fine.

But they weren’t.

In January 2011 I got an email that shook me to the core.  It was this beautiful mom letting me know that she had been diagnosed with a brain tumor.  The “not feeling well” that we were seeing at the newborn session turned out not to be just hormonal.  At first, nobody could figure out what was wrong. They went to doctor after doctor and nobody could figure out what was wrong. They even moved to another state for another job because they thought her headaches and mood changes could be due to stress. They finally found a doctor who gave them the bad news. It was a brain tumor and it had been growing for quite some time.

Since being diagnosed she has had 3 craniotomies.  The neurosurgeon was able to remove 85% of the tumor but the rest is inoperable.  After 4 rounds of chemotherapy they are now monitoring and, in Mom’s words, “living happily with brain cancer.  That remains a work in progress but is well worth the effort.”

In the process of keeping in touch she wrote some really moving emails to me.  Emails that meant the world to me because she was expressing how much their family portraits have meant to them.

Emails like this:

I treasure the the pictures that you have taken for my family and I know my kids will too when they get older.   You are helping people beautifully capture moments in their lives.  It is a special gift with which you are blessed. We tried to take photos of the family between two of my surgeries, because I was afraid I would lose more hair, but they just aren’t the same as the ones you have taken.  Unfortunately we weren’t in Dallas so we couldn’t get you to take them. No one has quite captured our family like you have.

I had the pleasure of seeing them in my studio over the holidays.  I will post more photos as soon as I can but I did want to put up a couple of this lovely mom and her beautiful children.  I knew that they were hoping to get something special with Mommy and the kids and I can only hope I did them justice.

Portraits are the doorway to the memories your family keeps.  I am humbled by the fact that they feel that I have been able to capture something special for them in their portraits.  Looking at these images I can see the love shining through and I hope they see it too.

Feel free to leave comments and well wishes. I know that they appreciate every single good thought sent their way. xoxo

Me and Roberta…/Plano maternity portraits

I love Roberta. You know, how some people you just really gravitate to? I felt that right from our very first session (almost 3 years ago). Now, her second baby is almost here (like any day now practically).

I don’t typically like to be in any photo at all, let alone get in a photo when I’m working and …let’s just say “disheveled”.  But, she’s just so special I had to jump in there for a snuggle (ignore the BodyBugg…obviously I wasn’t thinking about photos beforehand) :)

Can’t wait to meet baby girl and get some awesome newborn portraits!

Sweet family/Dallas family portraits

I always enjoy the time that I get to spend with this sweet family. I’ve been doing their portraits since Noah (the oldest boy) was just a baby. I can’t believe how fast the time flies. All 3 kiddos are getting to be so grown up. We had a great time recently enjoying the beautiful Fall weather and colors!

a girl and her puppy/Dallas children’s photographer pet photography

A lot of you will remember this beautiful little girl.  I get to see her every year around this time.  It just wouldn’t be the holiday season without my visit from Olivia.  And this year she brought her new puppy, Raven, with her.  It was just wonderful to see Olivia loving on that puppy.   I have my usual fabulous time with Olivia and her wonderful mom.  And Raven was a delight!  I am always sooooo happy when I get to photograph pets so this was just the cherry on my Olivia sundae.

Adorable Ashley/Plano baby photographer

I had such a good time with this little cutie pie. I just love this age so much. I have a bunch more and I’m sure I’ll be adding to this blog post but just wanted to get one up quickly to share with her sweet family. Isn’t she just a little darling?
